Trek Speed Concept SLR 9 AXS

Update Jan. 9

Trek dropped the price of the SLR 9 AXS.

That bike has Sram RED instead of Sram Force.

The LBS can offer me an additional discount, meaning I’m “only” paying ~750 more.

Which is more than the total for my Sonora 🤪

Paula also sanctioned this additional increase, so I informed them that it was okay.

The original post on the purchase of the Trek Speed Concept SLR 7 AXS is below.

So, I sold the Canyon SpeedMax rather quickly.

Feeling sorry after the fact – a bit anyway – I made a bold move.

I inquired with the Treasure Secretary if I could look for a replacement…

After all, I do participate in a yearly time trial 😂

I didn’t think I had much of a chance, but once again, she proved to be too good to be true.

Having her blessing, I didn’t waste any time.

Before going to the movies, we visited the LBS; they’re selling several brands and I bought the Giant Revolt there.

They also sell Trek bikes and they had a TT model on display during this year’s ITT Tijdrit Almere.

As their service and expertise does not disappoint, I was ready to buy a bike from them again.

(I got my Trek Émonda from my favorite not-so-LBS down South, though)

Trek only has one TT/Triathlon bike: the Trek Speed Concept series.

I was looking at the SLR 7, which was costing more than I could hope to get a green light for.

However, Paula looked at it, concluded it was not fitted with Sram and agreed on the SLR 7 AXS.

So far for the once impossible to break 10,000 barrier

Anyway, I had to promise I would not abuse the Trek Speed Concept like I did the Canyon SpeedMax.

Which is fine for me, as I want to use my other bikes more often anyway.

They are easier to handle and ride.

My last bike?

I also had to promise that this Trek would be my last purchase.

Given my age and the number of bikes I own – N+3 – I’m confident they’ll get me through cycling retirement.

The Trek Speed Concept will be used less and hopefully last longer *.

Provided I’m not losing another bike to a car hit – drivers seem to be getting more short-fused and rushed by the day…

The estimated delivery time is up to 50 days, but that may vary and I do have some things I’d like to change.

I mean, it’s a triathlon bike, but a 48/35 crank and 10-33 cassette – really?

If all goes as planned, I will ride the Trek Speed Concept during next year’s Tijdrit Almere, March 30, 2024…

* Let’s see if I can stick to that throughout next year…
