I’ve decided to sell the Canyon SpeedMax CF8 (SE) and I’m not sure f I’ll get permission to buy another TT/Tri bike.
While this is one of the best bikes I have owned – not counting the Trek Émonda – I believe that I am abusing it.
After all, I ride some 15K kilometers (9,320 plus miles, John) on it every year.
That in itself is enough to question anyone-but-me’s sanity and it is definitely not good for the bike.
Riding a TT or Tri bike is an acquired taste and I have mastered it, but you should not ride 40 km (TT) or 180 km (full Tri) distances some 250 days a year.
As the harvesting season prevented me from riding the Canyon very often, I switched to the Giant Revolt and back a few times.
That bike is much better suited for the muddy conditions and bad road surfaces I have in my backyard.
I noticed that I felt safer or more confident on it under those conditions and being less prudent to crashes gets more important as I grow older 😒
Besides, for the Canyon it also means less danger of parts snapping or breaking off – to be honest, that broken fork still kind of haunts me whenever I speed down an overpass…
So, I’ve cycled around the Earth on it and now would be a good time to put the Canyon SpeedMax up for sale.
Even though that still means money down the drain.
Enough of it to buy a decent new bike for most, two for some, I might add…
But keeping it means I will continue riding it as I have done, which I no longer want to do.
I could just leave it in the shed – my living room – more often, but that’s not how I roll.
Pushing my usual sweet spot power level – all I do, except when on an Alpine expedition – it’s the bike that gives me the greatest speed.
And that’s somehow more satisfying when a ride gets processed on Strava 🤣
This is what much of my backyard looks like – not perfect on any bike, even less so on the Canyon SpeedMax…
