Halfway through October 2025, 💖 Paula authorized another cycling trip, the Tour de France 2026.
That will be my 7th in total and the 5th in the last 6 years…
While I was considering going to the Pyrenees again, I booked an apartment in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
Which means we will have our base camp there for the 3rd time…
Both for the Tour of 2021 and the Tour of 2022, we stayed in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne; the 2024 Tour had its base camp in Albertville, in the Savoie as well.
Obviously, I know the area very well by now, but to say that I’ve done all climbs in it would be an overstatement.
I have done all famous climbs, but here are no less than 370 climbs in the Savoie listed on ClimbFinder at this stage.
And I’ve done 97, which lands me on third place of (registered) user with most climbs done there.
Since I’m 45 behind on first and second spot – one for sure living in the area and the other most likely too – I will not advance in the ranking next year.
At any rate, for my Tour de France 2026, I’m going to try and do as much new climbs as possible, but I will probably not be able to resist cols like the Iseran, Galibier and Croix de Fer…
And I will be – or at least should be – avoiding goat trails like Frumezan or killer climbs like Mont du Chat unless I am somehow able to transform in a “killer climbing machine” for this Tour 😂
The Tour de France 2026 will be two weeks long: the last week of July and the first week of August.
As usual, I will be posting updates as I scour the area for new climbs, but in 2021 and 2022 I’ve already posted about those extensively…
