Cyclopaat, an alter ego with a twist
As preparation for my upcoming Giro d’Italia 2025, we spent a week in Hochsauerlandkreis, Germany.
This mountainous area is no match for the Alps, but it offers a large number of climbs that are considerably longer than anything I can find in my own country and much of the neighboring Ardennes.
Many of them are throwing stinging grades at you – or stinging for me anyway…
Saturday June 14, we will once again depart for a week in Hochsauerlandkreis.
The area is one of Germany’s cycling mecca’s of “mid-range hills”.
The Hochsauerland hills will bring you up to just over 800 meters which is slightly higher than the Eifel, but over 600 meters short of the Feldberg in the Black Forest.
However, the Black Forest is a lot further away…
As has become customary for my Grand Tours, I have a few activities planned as preparation.
While it is impossible to tackle anything even remotely close to the long climbs that I will encounter during the Giro, I can at least plan long(er) rides through hilly areas not too far away from home.
