The Falzàrego Pass (2,105m) is an Alpine pass in the Dolomites, located in the Belluno province, connecting the upper Agordino with Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Boite valley.

The Valparola pass, the summit of which is located 1 km to the north, connects to the Badia valley in Alto Adige.

At the pass there’s a cable car station – the cable car goes up to the Lagazuoi refuge at 2,762 meters.

The Falzarego is included in both the Percorso Medio and Percorso Maratona of the Maratona dles Dolomites.

However, the Percorso Medio follows the Falzarego ascend from Andraz and the Percorso Maratona first gets up and down the Passo di Giau and follows the Falzarego ascend from Pocol.

Giro d’Italia

The Falzarego has been included 19 times in a Giro d’Italia stage between 1940 and 2008.

In 1977, the Cima Coppi was awarded to the Falzarego, although the stage continued over the Valparola. It has never been awarded the Cima Coppi since.

Caprile

The Falzarego ascent from Caprile is 19.5 kilometers long, with a D+ of 1,104 meters, or a 5.7% average.

There’s a steepest kilometer at 7.8% (just outside Caprile) and the final 5 kilometer has a 6.6% average.

I’ve only cycled the 10 kilometers from Cernadoi to the summit, never the whole thing from Caprile. That was in my Giro of 2015.

Cortina d’Ampezzo

The ascent from Cortina d’Ampezzo is 15.9 kilometers long with a D+ of 907 meters or a 5.7% average also.

Without the 2 kilometers near flat, the average is 6.5%, with 5 kilometers at 6.9% and a steepest kilometer of 7.4%.

I’ve done this ascent once in full, during my Giro of 2025. From Pocol, I’ve done it in 20112015 and in 2020’s Maratona.
