Bummer

Yesterday I went to the surgeon for a check-up and he had two messages:

1) the recovery is actually going quite well, perhaps even better than expected and a full recovery is in the offing.

2) that complete recovery can take 9 months to a year…

Huh, WTF?!

Ad 1) I can imagine that, because in the end my ‘starting position’ was probably better than that of the average fifty-something.

You can assume that the unhealthy mind in a healthy body is good for something after all.

Ad 2) Uh, what do you mean?

Well, the story he told about lion and all, I did understand that, right?

Given the (relatively) heavy nature of the trauma, it will take quite a while before you recover from it.

The fact that I even had the nerves to freewheel for six days around Berchtesgaden, let alone that I was idiotic enough to put something like an Alpe d’HuZes on my to-do list – well, technically: keep it – was a clear sign that I didn’t heed his warnings.

I immediately understood where my increasing disabilities came from, but in light of what I had just heard, it didn’t seem very useful to mention that.

Suits me right…

And to be honest, of course I already knew that myself. Given the efforts of last week, it is not surprising that even under normal circumstances you may suffer from aches and pains.

I also haven’t gotten around to get on the physiotherapist’s table yet and the surgeon had already told me that I definitely had to go there.

These appointments are now being scheduled, but since we are also going to Les Ménuires for another week, there are not many more sessions that can be scheduled until June 1.

I am not a top athlete, so I am simply confronted with the usual waiting times, working hours and overloaded agendas.

Anyway, I have no choice but to just go for it in the coming weeks and especially on June 7.

I am not prohibited from doing either Les Ménuires or Alpe d’HuZes, although the surgeon suggested I start using Ritalin…

Paula was also asked if she could possibly get some common sense into me, but she knows better.

But ‘all joking aside’, it was a bummer and not upping the confidence needed to bring June 7 to a successful conclusion.
