Today’s stage was the Aldo Sassi Memorial ride up a car free Stelvio.
I left my prepared cloths bag for the return at the collecting point around 8 AM and went back to the apartment.
After all, I wouldn’t start before 9:30 anyway.
While having another coffee and a protein shake, it started to rain 😐
But by the time I left for the start, it had all but stopped, although I knew I would get wet anyway.
The ride up the Stelvio itself is a well know affair by now and I didn’t even think about a “fast” time.
I stuck to a steady pace, stopped at the refreshment stations every 5 kilometers and shoot a few pictures.
It was getting colder and foggier by the hairpin, but at least it didn’t rain.

Towards the summit, the last three kilometer or so, it cleared up a bit, but it remained chilly.
At the summit, I collected my cloths bag and changed into something warmer. I had even packed long-fingered gloves this time, unlike back in 2011 😉
The descent was only slightly slower than “normal” because of the many cyclists still going up and going down, compensated by the lack of motorized traffic.
Unfortunately, I saw a cyclist stabilized and wrapped in foil, flat on the pavement, waiting for an ambulance.
I saw three of those going up during my descent…
