Veenendaal-Veenendaal

For the first time on the menu this “classic”, but the route did not bring any surprises.

Broadly speaking, it is similar to, for example, the ‘Jan Janssen Classic’ or the ‘Climbing tour over the Veluwe’.

Beautiful tours and so is this one, but they have the disadvantage that there is little to no ‘guidance’ along the way.

You should therefore be very careful at every intersection, roundabout or otherwise potentially dangerous situation.

Nothing wrong with that and you always should, but cycling was a lot easier last week.

Well, that tour costs 25 euros and the AGR is even more expensive, for this Axa tour you only pay 3 euros (or 5 if you are not an NTFU member)…

Last week it was also a lot quieter by the way. Due to the beautiful weather there were eventually more than 4,100 participants, which amounts to a doubling on the day itself (approx. 2,000 pre-registrations).

That made the already frequent traffic jams often twice as long. Also, at the bottom of the Italian road, a cyclist had crashed so badly that he had to be stabilized by the ambulance crew, which practically closed the road.

It didn’t look good, but hopefully everything will turn out well for the unlucky person…

Elapsed time was 5:05 today – 15 minutes were spent with his father (who lives on the course, on the Gen. Foulkesweg) and the remaining 4:50 were divided into 4:15 cycling, 35 minutes standing in line / taking a break.

With just over 400 KIPs, the trip was also almost flat – the Polar recorded 134.2 km and 950 meters of elevation, with a maximum gradient of 9% – a not so quiet but nice training for next week, with nice weather, although the wind was a bit annoying now and then.
