Giro d’Italia 2025 – Stage 10

The remaining stages of my Giro, I will try to get four passes on the “100 Greatest” list on my own “Been there, done that” list.

If I cycle all four, I will have completed 25 of the 100 on the list 🥳

As they are all relatively far from Bormio, I will probably spend more time in the car than on the bike.

Today, I decided to go past Edolo, further south to Pian Camuno – near Lake Iseo – to start with Pian de Montecampione (#31).

It had rained all the way there and it didn’t stop raining, although it eventually was just a drizzle…

Needless to say it was a long, chilly and wet struggle…

Contrary to the name, Montecampione is only about halfway up the climb, but that is also where the good tarmac ends.

Especially the last kilometers through the galleries and past a ridiculously big – and empty – parking lot, are horrible.

The restaurant at the roundabout summit end was closed, so we took a few pictures – there’s a Pantani memorial – and I got in the car for the descent and transfer to Breno.

By the time we got there, it was sunny and hot.

The climb up to Crocedomini (#30) was a lot better – more scenic and it wasn’t clouded most of the time – than Montecampione and the refugio was actually open.

But the struggle to get up this similarly hard, but now hot climb, was worse than up the Montecampione; at the summit, it was 34 degrees Celsius…

As I was again not feeling up to the descent by bike, I got in the car for the long drive home.
